Blog

Haven't been posting for a while. Basically I don't see the internet as a useful tool. I'll probably return to this next year, but for know I will hold my peace. Issue 22 is proceeding.

Numbers

Counted that I have enough white sraperboard for an additional 400 pages. I need to get at least 3 full packages more. For drawing I'm using textmark markers, haven't found anything better. They wear out relatively fast so I'm using approximately 20 in a month. The project requires 3 more years. 12 x 3x 20 equals 720. I collect the used markers to a plastic bag beside my desk.

Old work

I don't spend a lot of time thinking of my old work. When it's done it's over. The Kekkonen book from 2004 has been in many ways my biggest suggest. Due to some decisions my finnish publisher made i pretty much hate the book. Same goes with Holmenkollen. The french editions are a lot nicer, but the finnish editions... At that time there was a technological change going on and the old analogical technology was being replaced by the digital. Kekkonen was the first of my book that was scanned and I had to do the corrections myself. I hated every moment. Don't get me wrong, I would've been quite happy scraping and correcting films like it was done before. I used to love that part of the work, working really close to the printing machine. But with scanning there's always the pixels. And I hate the look of them (when it's not intentional). So during the years one thing lead to another and here I am drawing with a marker. And although the drawing has evolved from issue one of läskimooses i still aim for shittiness. And people still seem to remember my kekkonen book the best and i still hope i had never done the ugly monster with all those pixels lurking beneath the surfus.

The best place

the best place to be is the 5 first pages or so of a book,  after 7 or 8 it usually gets a bit hairy. Carry on.

Läskimooses 19 B

Läskimooses 19 B. Only for subscribers. Risograph printed. 100 copies.

Hello

yes, issue 21 is packed away and first page of issue 22 is finished. I had hoped a 16 page issue but it doesnt look like that. Also started to work on the back cover with famous five. Plan is to have it all finished before going to Tokyo in december. Well... Any which way this goes issue 22 will be the last issue of 2014.
But what really thrilled me today is a sketch i wrote for a very strange all collage issue. Oh, that's something i would really like to start to work with. Sidetracking...

This spot

Been polishing issue 21. The first two pages need completely new texts. I was dissatisfied with them from the very beginning and now I pretty much have a solution, but I hate it when this happens. I would like to move on to 22, but today at least  i have to do this. Club page undone and the color for the back cover. This book requires three more years. Meanwhile I don't get a lot of feedback. Does it work? I will put 6 years to this project so it better work, somehow. At this age I also calculate how many more books I can finish. Well, it depends. I have a couple of ideas that probably have only 200 pages or so... I don't know ...3 or 4 big books or several smaller. Ha, if i'm able to finish this one.

Saturday

Was working on the cover of issue 21. Later I came home and glanced through some of the older issues. The Thing requires some corrections and editing, and a part of me would really like to start  polishing the text. But that would probably be against the rules. I still have 3 years to go and then... I expect that I need to rewrite things on maybe 50 pages, make some additional pages (maybe 20) and then it would pretty much be what it wanted to be or close. For the moment I'm quite enjoying the drawing part and everything I can do with it. The writing brings me more grief. Mainly the parts that need to lead to some specific result in some specific order. Soon I need to read my notebooks to gather every piece of information and nice story twists that I've written down during the last 3 years in order to put the next 3 issues together and not forget anything.

I guess

I guess I started this project in order to have a "work in progress"
like Joyce had.
