How things are

Just delivered issue 22 my publisher although (haha) some things undone in issue 21. Currently the story tells in some detail of the adventures of Ohto Naulo. I'll continue on this track for one more issue, then go to more general info of the fall of the URO-people. Issue 25 will most likely tell of the conspiracy of the elite and list the rock solid evidence of the facts revealed in part 3 of the book. Issue 26 (or 27) will be an intermediate issue and issue after that will take us back to Mars. After this I'll get started with part 4 which will among other things reveal the true story of Agner Mang, the person who tried to save the Fu, and failed. If everything goes as planned the tension will pack up until the darkest secrets of planet Läskimooses are revealed. And that is not yet going to be the end of the book. Some loose ends have to be tied up. For one: why are the 2 men on the ice breaker? And then we are at issue 40 or 42 or 46...

Issue 22

has been more or less drawn and will be shipped to my publisher in just a few days. Meanwhile issue 21 is undergoing scanning and all that. I enjoyed doing these two but in retrospect I'm not quite happy with some panels. Maybe a change of direction for 23... Or for 24.
Plan is to finish the whole story before 2018. Remains to be seen... But will it ever come out in book format? Maybe not , not in Finland anyways. Who knows.

Blog

Haven't been posting for a while. Basically I don't see the internet as a useful tool. I'll probably return to this next year, but for know I will hold my peace. Issue 22 is proceeding.

Numbers

Counted that I have enough white sraperboard for an additional 400 pages. I need to get at least 3 full packages more. For drawing I'm using textmark markers, haven't found anything better. They wear out relatively fast so I'm using approximately 20 in a month. The project requires 3 more years. 12 x 3x 20 equals 720. I collect the used markers to a plastic bag beside my desk.

Old work

I don't spend a lot of time thinking of my old work. When it's done it's over. The Kekkonen book from 2004 has been in many ways my biggest suggest. Due to some decisions my finnish publisher made i pretty much hate the book. Same goes with Holmenkollen. The french editions are a lot nicer, but the finnish editions... At that time there was a technological change going on and the old analogical technology was being replaced by the digital. Kekkonen was the first of my book that was scanned and I had to do the corrections myself. I hated every moment. Don't get me wrong, I would've been quite happy scraping and correcting films like it was done before. I used to love that part of the work, working really close to the printing machine. But with scanning there's always the pixels. And I hate the look of them (when it's not intentional). So during the years one thing lead to another and here I am drawing with a marker. And although the drawing has evolved from issue one of läskimooses i still aim for shittiness. And people still seem to remember my kekkonen book the best and i still hope i had never done the ugly monster with all those pixels lurking beneath the surfus.

The best place

the best place to be is the 5 first pages or so of a book,  after 7 or 8 it usually gets a bit hairy. Carry on.

Läskimooses 19 B

Läskimooses 19 B. Only for subscribers. Risograph printed. 100 copies.

Hello

yes, issue 21 is packed away and first page of issue 22 is finished. I had hoped a 16 page issue but it doesnt look like that. Also started to work on the back cover with famous five. Plan is to have it all finished before going to Tokyo in december. Well... Any which way this goes issue 22 will be the last issue of 2014.
But what really thrilled me today is a sketch i wrote for a very strange all collage issue. Oh, that's something i would really like to start to work with. Sidetracking...

First panel

First panel of issue 22

This spot

Been polishing issue 21. The first two pages need completely new texts. I was dissatisfied with them from the very beginning and now I pretty much have a solution, but I hate it when this happens. I would like to move on to 22, but today at least  i have to do this. Club page undone and the color for the back cover. This book requires three more years. Meanwhile I don't get a lot of feedback. Does it work? I will put 6 years to this project so it better work, somehow. At this age I also calculate how many more books I can finish. Well, it depends. I have a couple of ideas that probably have only 200 pages or so... I don't know ...3 or 4 big books or several smaller. Ha, if i'm able to finish this one.

Questions

1. Who will lead the Uro-people?
2. Who controls Läskimooses?
3. What clanks in the engine room?
4. What is the innermost secret of Läskimooses?
5. Why are the men in the ice breaker?
6. Where is the origin of the Uro-people?
7. How come the Fu didn't see the killer planet coming IF they are so wise?
8. Will there be another giantsize poster in Läskimoooses?
9. How would I get my face on it?
10. Would money help?

Saturday

Was working on the cover of issue 21. Later I came home and glanced through some of the older issues. The Thing requires some corrections and editing, and a part of me would really like to start  polishing the text. But that would probably be against the rules. I still have 3 years to go and then... I expect that I need to rewrite things on maybe 50 pages, make some additional pages (maybe 20) and then it would pretty much be what it wanted to be or close. For the moment I'm quite enjoying the drawing part and everything I can do with it. The writing brings me more grief. Mainly the parts that need to lead to some specific result in some specific order. Soon I need to read my notebooks to gather every piece of information and nice story twists that I've written down during the last 3 years in order to put the next 3 issues together and not forget anything.

I guess

I guess I started this project in order to have a "work in progress"
like Joyce had.

Issues

the meaning was to make a 250 book in a year and half. Now after the current calculations the story is going to span to 50 issues and at least 1200 pages. I aim to finish in 2018, but who knows. Now, we could use some help to get some more subscribers. So if you are a reader and IF you like the story and would like to see it concluded, pass the word. I have all sorts of plans of full color issues and all, but my publisher is a poor person and we could use more subscribers. 900 or so... Ha!

Moving on

Issue 20 is out and issue 21 is drawn.    The special issue 19b has also be printed. The conclusion of the story is at least 25 issues away. There are some pages i like in past issues but so what?

subscription

So, this is a crazy 1000 page (well over thousand at this stage) comic book in making and subscriptions are pretty much the only way we can keep going. Go to kreegah.net and look it up. Comes with a handy translation to english.
The project has now reached it's imaginary midpoint with over 500 pgs of strangeness. The current issues reveal the roots of the finnish people in their former glory. After issue 24 we 'll get back to the mysteries of Fu. Are the Fu-people really extinct? AND after that the true nature of the killer planet will be finally revealed. Is there any way to avoid the cataclysm? And meanwhile: what on earth is that clanking sound? Hey, don't count on this coming out in book format!

You can order via publisher's website or just send email to kreegahbundolo (at) gmail.com.

Yes well, some day... I should've taken pictures. The panel took a lot of punishment but in the end I managed to turn it for the better (thanks to Eadward Muybridge). Tomorrow I'll go to the studio for just a few hours. Plan is to finish 1 to 3 panels. This issue requires one more week. Some texts not done, cover not done, 5 panels unfinished, 2 additional pages not done, club page not done...maybe I'll need more weeks. Problem was I started to add pages and panels and so here I am. Again.

Leftovers

Sketching

Issues 21 &22&23...

...play around with what's often called "realistic drawing style" for whatever reason. And so far i find it quite enjoyable. It's been over 20 yrs that I've tried my hand at this (you know, muscles and stuff) and it's going surprisingly smoothly. So, has it been more difficult? Slower? Nope, quite the contrary, I'd say. After 23 however I should be returning to more familiar styles . But I won't leave it to this. There's two issues planned closer to the end of LÄSKIMOOSES (maybe around issue 35) that should be very very much in the vein of Marvel and DC. AND if (IF) things go to the right direction: it 's going to be in 4 colors! Excelsior!

Friday, October 10, 2014

Well...

a bit over a page is what i managed to do. The structure of the issue is a bit on the weirder side (don't worry H it still has plenty of those muscular males that we all like so much) and the drawing style goes to all directions, but it's an action packed rant so i think i'll get away with all the strangeness.

Catching up

Should be able to do one page in a day. This week was not good enough. So today and tomorrow i will try to do 3pgs. We'll see...

Still dont know...

Yesterday was a diappointment. First of all I had slept badly which resulted to a bunch of bad decisions. Then i decided to start without sketching although i knew the panel could prove difficult. So i ended up drawing the same figure for the whole day and eventually ruining the scraper board. Sometimes a yesterday's mistake is today's success, but not today.   There are some compositional problems that can't be fixed, not anymore. And still today I dont quite know what Ohto Äijönpoika looks like. So back to the old drawing board.
On a brighter note: issue 20 is leaving for the printer

Some years back...

Drawings

Landscape with stars

Tuesday

Monday is usually better than tuesday and yesterday was good. If I could keep up the 5 panel pace, I would be soon done. Maybe in ten days maybe. Splitting the issue feels like a good decision now. There's a lot of action anyways and a change of tempo does a lot good for the storyline. I now try to tell it as straight as I'm able. There's going to be a lot weirdness again later on.

A new collage...

...wasn't exactly what I needed...

What happened

Issue 21 started to turn really complex and LONG so I divided it into 2 issues. You know, I can do these things if I want to.

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

So, it was a good day panel-wise. Six of them finished. Issue 21 is moving along. Now there's 5 pages finished, more or less. Once more a totally silly issue with several twists and turns you could hardly have anticipated. The URO-storyline continues with the exploits of Ohto Äijönpoika.

Page 4 done

Opera

How many of you have seen this? The opera based on my comics. Not too many, since it only had 5 performances in Helsinki in 2000. All sold out. There have been some plans from time to time to bring it abroad or revive it here. So far with no success. So far. Nuff said

From 21

Aint it so?
